Shettleston is a community based housing Association whose membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age living within the Association’s area of operation. The Association is committed to the involvement of tenants and local residents in the running of its affairs and to consultation with tenants and local residents over those actions or policies that may affect them.
If you live within the Association’s area (click on map, right, to enlarge) and are over 18 (16 for tenants) you are entitled to apply for membership and, if you are 18 or over, to stand for election to the Management Committee.
Membership costs £1 and is for life as long as you remain living in the Association’s area. If you move out of the area the Association would end your membership.
Applications for membership are considered by the Management Committee at the next scheduled committee meeting and the Committee’s decisions are governed by the Association Rules and the Membership Policy.
Elections to the Management Committee are held every year and where there are more candidates for election than the number standing, a postal ballot is conducted in which every tenant as well as every Association member is entitled to vote. Tenants who are also members only have one vote.
The postal ballots are conducted by an independent election administrator and campaigning/canvassing by candidates is subject to clear rules.
Election results are announced at the Annual General Meeting in September and must be ratified by the AGM.
