Lithium-ion batteries are found in many everyday items and can pose a serious fire risk if they are damaged, crushed or disposed of along with everyday household waste.

Residents may have seen a recent incident involving a Glasgow City Council refuse vehicle which had to be dumped on the street and attended by the Scottish Fire Service (Worker jabbed with needle after Glasgow bin lorry fire – BBC News)

Fires caused by batteries can spread quickly, putting residents, waste and recycling staff and the wider public at risk, as such please never put lithium -ion batteries or electrical items containing batteries in your general waste or recycling bin .

The risks associated with the improper disposal of these items are very real and we would ask our residents to make informed decisions regarding how they dispose of these items at all times.
