Ania Ostrowska
Board Member
My name is Ania Ostrowska and I have lived on Shettleston Rd for just over four years, in one of tenement flats factored by SHA. I like the area a lot, especially Tollcross Park for walks, and I swim regularly in the International Swimming Centre. I am also a big fan of two pigs, Flora and Fauna, who live on the farm in the park. I am originally from Poland and I moved to the UK 20 years ago. I had stayed in London for 16 years before moving to Glasgow in 2021. Growing up in Poland, I was living in a block of flats owned and run by a housing association so I am aware of good and bad sides of this housing situation. I work for British Film Institute (BFI) with office in London so I work from home. Besides my paid work, I have been volunteering for different causes for many years, including working with charities that help reduce healthcare inequalities. Locally in Glasgow, I have also been volunteering for Simon Community, a homelessness charity. I am part of their cycling team, moving around the city outside the centre (in Southside, West End, East End), checking on the people who sleep rough and distributing provisions and safe injection equipment for those who need it. I am always interested in what is going on around me and I would like to join the Board to have a say about my close, the common backcourts and the wider neighbourhood. I would especially like to see the St Mark’s Mural restored to its true glory, to match the Shettleston Rd gushet’s giraffe.
