Close Cleaning Service
Upkeep provide a comprehensive close cleaning service to residents of Shettleston Housing Association.
Following feedback from residents, the teams at Upkeep and Shettleston Housing Association held a series of meetings to agree a comprehensive and enhanced close cleaning specification aimed at ensuring the service remained fit for purpose for 2025 and beyond. Following these meetings, it was agreed that the following specifications would be introduced from 1st December 2025.

Weekly Clean:
- Shake doormats loose of soil
- Stairs and landings to be swept and litter and soil collected, bagged and removed
- Stairs and landing to be sprayed with cleaning chemical and mopped (Upkeep will alternate cleaning chemical to ensure people notice a difference periodically)

- Stair edgings (under bannisters) to be brushed and mopped, if accessible
- Window ledges wiped clean
- Clean Bannister / handrail
- Door entry control panel, hand plate, and handle to be cleaned and polished
It was agreed that we would remove the existing ‘Silver Service’ clean (currently every 6-8 weeks) and replace with a four weekly enhanced clean which would include the following as required:
Four Weekly (Monthly) Clean:
- Cobweb Removal
- Clean front & rear close doors
- Clean all accessible landing windows
- Wall tiles to be cleaned
- Railings to be cleaned
It as also agreed that this would be further supplemented by a bi-monthly clean.
Bi-monthly Clean - to include:
- Deck scrubbing as required
- Clean walls where accessible
- Remove small items of graffiti from internal close
Key to the roll out of this new specification is an increase in the levels of supervision across the contract as well clearer communication with residents.
Enhanced Supervision:
- Supervisor / Chargehand to check each floor has been cleaned and ensure completion photos taken
- Supervisor / Chargehand to ensure newly introduced inspection and attendance sheet is dated and timestamped
- QR code to be placed in every close which will direct tenants to this online resource outlining the full-service specification as well as Key information on service delivery, information on the day their close is due to be cleaned and any other pertinent information which needs to be shared on a rolling basis. It will also provide tenants the opportunity to provide feedback, report issues they have encountered with service delivery and request further information on the service should this be required.
- It was also agreed that following roll out Upkeep would conduct monthly visits with Housing Officers to their stock
- This would also be further supplemented by monthly/bi-monthly as necessary meeting between Upkeep senior team and Housing management to discuss contract and any feedback received
It is hoped that this enhanced specification, and increased supervision will improve overall standards across communal closes and will provide clear information to service users on what is covered by the contract as well as provide the opportunity to feedback more regularly on the standard of the service, ultimately increasing levels of satisfaction amongst SHA tenants.
